End of Year 2012 - Families and Children

I don't photograph families very often and I tend to photograph children even less, but every time I do I have a good time. Here are a few of my favorite family moments I've captured in this past year.

Kendall and Family

Last year I had the pleasure of taking Kendall's senior photos. A few weeks ago I met up with her and her family for a quick family photo session. It was so good to see her and her parents again. Although we only met for a family photo, I convinced them each to sit for a quick portrait as well. Here's a few of the photos from our session...

Jer and Sara - Denver Family Photography

I first met Jer and Sara when I was in college.  Those were different times... I was in a band and we practiced in Jer's garage.  After college, we lost touch, but were recently reunited at a friend's get-together.  We started talking and, well, we set up a family portrait session!

Since they live close to Washington Park, we headed over there so Ryah would have some room to run around and they wouldn't have to drive across town.  It was a beautiful day and we had a lot of fun!  Ryah was in a great mood and Jer and Sara were a pleasure to work with.  Thanks for a great afternoon!

Gwen and Eric

I met Gwen and Eric's family for some family photos up in Louisville at an office park on the edge of town.  Doesn't sound like a very photogenic place, does it?  I wouldn't have really thought so either, but once I started exploring it a bit I saw lots of opportunity.

I met up with Gwen, Eric and Claire, along with her sister and brother-in-law and her parents on a beautiful spring evening.  We explored the wilderness around the offices and here's what we found.

Lisa – Denver Family Photography

This photo session had been a long time coming.  Lisa won a portrait package that I had donated to a silent auction last year, but due to conflicting schedules, vacations and even a move, we weren’t able to get our schedules to work out until last week.  Fortunately, it was worth the wait!

Lisa decided to schedule her portrait session around the time her daughter, Maia, was graduating from CU-Boulder.  As an added bonus, her mother, Natalie was in town for the graduation, so we were able to capture 3 generations of women in these photos. 

Because of Maia’s graduation from CU, we decided to roam around CU's campus while capturing photos.  I've shot photos at CU before and think it's a wonderful location for some photos in Boulder.  We had great weather with light cloud cover and just a bit of wind.  With all of the buildings, when the sun came out or the wind blew a little too hard we were able to find refuge and keep taking photos.

After spending the afternoon with Lisa, Maia, Natalie and Jameson (Maia's dog) I couldn't wait to get home and take a look at the photos.  I wasn't disappointed with the results.  Here are some of my favorites from the day.

Stella, Max, Shane and Amber - Denver Family Photographer

If you're a regular reader of this blog, you might remember when I photographed Stella last year.  She had just turned 6 months old and her parents drove up to Denver from Pueblo for her portrait session.  She was also supposedly the cutest baby ever (at least according to her mom).  Well, Stella's back and she's cuter than ever!  Her family also makes an appearance here, so be sure to read on for some great family photos.

First, let's talk about Stella's older brother, Max.  Max is 3 and is completely obsessed with Woody from Toy Story.  He even wore his boots to the photo shoot!  Last time he was a little shy, but this time he was ready to get his picture taken.  Not only that, but he was also more than happy to get his little sister to smile when she started to get fussy.

Stella was in a pretty good mood today.  She was full of toothy smiles, even though they took a little coaxing once in a while.  This is where it's so important to have mom, dad and even big brother along.  Stella probably wouldn't have smiled for me, but she surely would smile for her family!  After getting photos in a few different outfits, Stella was done.  Thankfully, we got the photos we wanted.  We were even able to squeeze in a few family photos!

At the end of the day, we all had a great time and got some great photos.  After the shoot we went over to Borders to grab a cup of coffee and Stella decided to totally turn on the charm.  She was laughing, sitting in a chair and posing and just generally having a better time than she had in the studio.  I think she was teasing me, giving me a taste of what I can expect next time.  I can't wait.

It's Friday Already? This Week In Photography.

Where did this week go?  It's been pretty busy around here lately, which might be the reason I haven't posted anything about what I've been up to all week long.  Last weekend was filled up with a wedding, some family photography and senior photos.  I also took a day during the week to catch the Flash Bus Tour as it made a stop in Denver.  Not to mention the fact that I'm finalizing the design on some new fliers and marketing pieces.
